The 2026-2027 winter season is getting closer, and the first ski resort opening dates have now been announced. If you are planning a stay in the French Alps, these dates help you organise accommodation, lift passes and, just as importantly, your journey from the airport or railway station to your resort. Les Mousquetons du Glacier provide premium Alpine transfers on request from Geneva, Annecy, Chambéry and other major arrival points to leading resorts across Savoie and Haute-Savoie.
Ski resort opening dates 2026-2027: the first resorts to open
Several major resorts are due to open during the second half of November. However, some openings will be gradual, while others remain subject to snow conditions. Therefore, it is important to distinguish between a resort opening, a partial sector opening and the full opening of a linked ski area.
- Tignes: 21 November 2026. The resort has announced a gradual opening from 21 November. The Tignes–Val d’Isère link is expected to open from 28 November, subject to snow conditions.
- Val Thorens: 21 November 2026. The Val Thorens–Orelle ski area is scheduled to operate from 21 November 2026 until 2 May 2027.
- Val d’Isère: 28 November 2026. The winter season is announced from 28 November 2026 until 2 May 2027.
- Les Deux Alpes: 28 November 2026. The resort has announced its Ski Opening for 28 November 2026.
These early openings are particularly attractive to skiers who want to enjoy the first weeks of the season. As a result, booking your transfer in advance can make a real difference, especially on Saturdays and during the first busy winter weekends.
Chamonix: opening dates vary by ski area
Chamonix does not have one single opening date for the entire valley. Official information currently indicates that Grands Montets and Flégère are expected to open from 28 November 2026, depending on snow conditions. Brévent and Balme–Vallorcine are scheduled from 12 December 2026. Les Houches–Saint-Gervais is due to open on 19 December 2026, although an earlier partial opening may be possible if conditions allow.
This sector-by-sector approach matters when planning your arrival. Indeed, your exact accommodation and chosen ski area can affect the final part of the transfer. For that reason, providing the precise address of your hotel, residence or chalet when booking helps the driver prepare the journey accurately.
Early December: Courchevel, Méribel and Alpe d’Huez
Early December brings the opening of several major Alpine destinations.
- Courchevel: 4 December 2026. The official website currently lists the ski season from 4 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.
- Méribel: 5 December 2026. The resort announces a winter season from 5 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.
- Alpe d’Huez: 5 December 2026. The Alpe d’Huez ski area is scheduled to open from 5 December 2026 to 25 April 2027.
From this point onwards, passenger flows increase quickly. In addition, arrivals from Geneva Airport and the railway stations of Annecy, Chambéry, Moûtiers and Bourg-Saint-Maurice often concentrate around the same periods. Booking ahead therefore makes it easier to organise the right pick-up time, luggage capacity and winter equipment.
From 12 December: La Plagne, Les Arcs and Megève
Mid-December marks another important stage in the start of the Alpine ski season.
- La Plagne: 12 December 2026. The resort announces the opening of its main sectors from 12 December for the 2026-2027 season.
- Les Arcs: 12 December 2026. The Les Arcs ski area is scheduled to open from 12 December 2026.
- Megève: partial opening from 12 December 2026. An initial partial opening is also planned for the weekend of 5 and 6 December, followed by a broader opening from 12 December. The general opening of the ski area is announced for 19 December, subject to sufficient snow conditions.
As with Chamonix, it is worth checking exactly which sectors are open in Megève. Weather and snow conditions can also affect the schedule. Therefore, checking the resort’s official information shortly before departure remains essential.
Why book your ski transfer before the resorts open?
The first ski weekends generate heavy traffic between airports, railway stations and the resorts. Families and groups also need to take luggage, skis, snowboards and arrival times into account. A private transfer booked in advance removes much of that uncertainty.
Les Mousquetons du Glacier bring together independent professional drivers specialising in premium Alpine transfers. Their collective organisation helps provide continuity of service and local mountain expertise. Transfers can be arranged from Geneva, Annecy, Chambéry and Alpine railway stations towards destinations including Courchevel, Méribel, Val Thorens, Tignes, Val d’Isère, La Plagne and Les Arcs.
When booking, you can provide the number of passengers, luggage requirements, ski equipment, flight or train number and your exact destination address. This allows the journey to be prepared more accurately and gives you a clearer arrival plan before you travel.
